Universal Life Force Energy itself has always been around, which means no person created it. Noone has any claim rights on Reiki because we’ve been tapping into it, in one way or another, for as long as history seems to show. It did take a human to understand, document and convey a specific set of teachings about it.
It’s agreed that Japanese doctor Mikao Usui was the one that recognized and documented Reiki’s power in modern times, around the turn of 20th century. He is often referred to as Mikao Usui or Usui Sensei. This means Teacher or Master.
Dr. Usui went on a self-discovery journey which lead him to a retreat near Mt. Kurama where he fasted for 21 days. On his last day, Reiki rushed towards him and into his third eye where he then went into a deep state of meditation or unconsciousness. While he was in this state, the Reiki symbols were shown to him. He was then able to use Reiki to heal himself and others and travelled throughout Japan and China teaching his technique and the Reiki Principles.
Usui Sensei died in 1926, leaving behind many Reiki Masters to continue administering and teaching his healing methods. One of these masters was Dr. Chujiro Hayashi who created the hand positions to treat ailments. One of his students Mrs. Hawayo Takata was attuned to Master level before he died, which ensured the teachings would live on. Naturally, Takata Sensei taught her students, who then went on to teach others.
Reiki is now all over the world in every country. This beautiful healing energy has been found and then shown for everyone who is willing to learn.
